Derry’s Declan Mullan became the first player to be issued a black card under Gaelic Football’s new rules against Louth on Friday night.

Referee Brendan Rice from Down ordered the Coleraine forward off in the 50th minute of the sides’ O’Fiaich Cup clash but it didn’t seem to hurt his team as replacement Anthony O’Neill raised a green flag with his first touch.

Louth led 1-6 to 1-5 at the break but O’Neill’s goal helped Brian McIver’s men push on and secure a place against Armagh in the final with a 3-11 to 2-10 win.
