Dungannon Swifts goalkeeper Niall Morgan is set to join up with the Tyrone football squad for the 2013 season.

Morgan is regarded as one of the best netminders in the Irish League, and while he does play outfield for his local GAA club, Mickey Harte and his backroom team have been impressed with his performances for the Stangmore Park outfit.

Pascal McConnell has been the regular Tyrone custodian for a number of years, but will now face competition when Morgan arrives in January.

Speaking in the Tyrone Times, Morgan is looking forward to the move and said: "You only get one chance to play for your county and I know that if I was to turn it down at this stage I wouldn’t get another.

"It’s a new challenge and I am relishing it. I want to make the team not just the panel.

"To leave Dungannon Swifts has been my most difficult decision to make. I am still contracted with Swifts and, if I ever come back to soccer, I would only ever come back to Dungannon."
