Donegal will be largely weakened for the opening of the Power NI McKenna Cup according to reports.

The All-Ireland champions will make a pre-season trip to Dubai ahead of the early season competition and will focus on build-up to the league in training rather than the McKenna Cup.

The main squad will return from Dubai on 8 January, a day before the opening game in the competition so management will opt to field a second-string side in the games.

According to Gaelic Life, Jim McGuinness and Rory Gallagher have distributed personal training schedules to the players which vary on their respective club campaigns.

Rules restrict the All-Ireland champions from beginning collective training until the new year but the trip Dubai will make up for time missed.
