Round-up of NFL Division 3
Sunday, 20 April 2008DOWN 0-13 FERMANAGH 1-12, Newry
Fermanagh maintained continued their unbeaten league campaign thanks to this two-point victory over Down at Páirc Esler.
Despite the hosts leading by 0-10 to 0-07 in the opening minutes of the second half, a revived Fermanagh outfit dug deep to carve out the win.
Substitute Tom Brewster led the comeback with a Ryan Keenan goal dramatically sealing the issue, after Down had led for the most part.
Fermanagh will face Wexford in the Division 3 final next weekend.
LIMERICK 1-09 LEITRIM 0-11, Kilmallock
A 63rd-minute point from defender Diarmuid Carroll was the decisive score as Limerick held out for a slender win at Kilmallock.
Mickey Ned O'Sullivan's charges were certainly tested by a Leitrim side that were eager to avoid the drop to Division 4.
In the end they were relegated as John Galvin, Conall Ó Crualaí and Carroll gave solid displays for Limerick.
Despite kicking seven first half wides, Limerick were the better side and just about deserved the full points.
LONGFORD 1-14 SLIGO 0-14, Pearse Park
A goal from second half substitute Francie Martin condemned Sligo to Division 4 football for next year as Longford won this keenly contested affair at Pearse Park.
Despite Sligo holding a 0-04 to 0-02 lead at the end of the opening quarter, a Brian Kavanagh point ensured parity at the interval at 0-07 apiece.
The sides continued to remain deadlocked in the third quarter, in this relegation dogfight, but Longford had the final say with Martin's goal helping the hosts hold on.
WEXFORD 2-16 LOUTH 0-15, Wexford Park
A second yellow card for Mattie Forde was the only disappointment for the hosts as Wexford booked a spot in next weekend's Division 3 final.
Wexford kicked the bulk of their tally from play including well taken goals from Forde (1-04) and Shane Roche.
The hosts led by 2-12 to 0-07 as the game entered the final quarter but Louth failed to give up.
Despite Shane Lennon, Darren Clarke and Colm Judge all contributing to the visitors' tally, Wexford had enough of a cushion to prevail.
