Roscommon v Cavan
Friday, 18 April 2008 10:20Sunday will bring the curtain down on a NFL campaign that has been nothing short of a disaster for Roscommon.
Just one point from six games, with a caretaker manager in place and boasting a score difference of minus 69 points, the Rossies will be glad to see the back of Division 2.
As if things weren't bad enough, county board members continue to make media comments about the manner of John Maughan's resignation.
The only thing Paul Earley can do is plough on and try and eke out a positive result before he hands over the reins to whoever Maughan's successor may be.
David O'Gara and Cathal Cregg, two of the county's U-21 starlets, come back into the side at wing-back and corner-forward respectively, and the hope is that Roscommon's talented youngsters have not become too disillusioned with the state of affairs at senior level.
Cavan have only one point more than their Connacht opponents - courtesy of their win over Cork - but they have had put in some encouraging performances.
The form of full-forward Seanie Johnston has been an obvious highlight, but aside from their performance against Monaghan and the result against Westmeath the Breffni men have not been embarrassed.
And with the Ulster Championship appearing to be quite open this year, they will be quietly confident they can pull off one or two surprises in the coming months.
Ensuring they don't finish bottom of the table is their immediate concern, however.
Verdict: Cavan
