Mulvey urges Holland to 'step aside'
Friday, 15 February 2008 23:31The Chief Executive of the Labour Relations Commission, Kieran Mulvey, has recommended that Cork GAA football manager Teddy Holland and his selectors step back from their positions.
However, it is understood that Mr Holland is not bound by the recommendation, although both the striking players and the Cork County Board agreed in advance to accept the arbitration.
Kieran Mulvey confirmed that his statement read: 'It is with a feeling of sincere regret I now believe the present football management team should step aside and thereby contribute their assistance in resolving this dispute.'
Mr Mulvey has also recommended that the new manager will be appointed by a committee of seven, which would include five members of the County Board and two current players.
His third recommendation is that the players must agree never to strike again.
An emergency meeting of the county board will take place on Saturday evening to consider Mulvey's recommendations.
Cork's footballers and hurlers have been on strike since December over their dispute with the county board's stance on the appointment of the management team for the county's footballers.
Earlier today, the GAA confirmed that the two matches involving Cork county teams scheduled for this weekend have been called off.
The footballers were due to play Dublin, while the hurlers had been down to meet Waterford.
No decision regarding the rescheduling of the games, or if points should be forfeited, will be made until the Central Competitions Control Committee meeting on Tuesday.
