Mayo board to oppose player grants
Updated: Friday, 07 Dec 2007 07:20
Mayo County Board last night voted unanimously to oppose the proposal for inter county players to receive Government grants.
Mayo's Central Council delegate Paddy Muldoon was given a strong message to make the county's views known at tomorrow's meeting of the Central Council in Croke Park, which will meet to approve the grants.
It was suggested that a vote on the plan be deferred until Special Congress in January, by which time views of the GAA members would be ascertained.
The Ulster Council's Competitions Control Committee has decided to forward a document to Central Council.
The provincial body in a press release stated that the operational plan to distribute grants should take into consideration the enormous work load of the counties.
