From the start of the second half the game looked to be heading for penalties, with both sides carving out few chances. And so the US tournament became the first to be settled on spot-kicks.

It was Roberto Baggio's goals that had sent Italy into the final, his brace against Bulgaria in the semi-final gave them a 2-1 victory, so who better to take the crucial penalty to keep Italy in the shootout at 3-2 than the great Italian forward?

The Pasadena Rosebowl held its breath as Baggio made his run up and amazingly ballooned the ball over the bar into the ecstatic crowd of Brazilian fans.

He had just won the World Cup for Brazil. Unfortunately, it is for this moment that Baggio is most remembered.
