Ireland’s Michael Duffy was a key part of the victorious Europe show jumping team at the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing this morning.
Duffy, riding Commander, jumped two clear rounds as Europe saw off the challenge of South America. North America claimed bronze.
All of the teams competed on borrowed horses, which were provided by the organisers and allocated by lot.
The Mayo man was part of a five-rider team, which included Sweden’s Filip Agren, Italy’s Matias Alvaro, Britain’s Jake Saywell and Lisa Nooren of the Netherlands.
Duffy will also compete in the individual competition which starts on Saturday.
Over 3,800 competitors from 200 nations are taking part in the Games, which are open to competitors between the ages of 15 and 18.
