Robert Splaine has been re-appointed to the position of chef d'équipe for the Ireland equestrian team.

Splaine, who has held the position for the past six years, was one of seven candidates for the job.

The Co Cork native enjoyed one of his best seasons with the squad in 2012. They won the Hickstead Nations Cup, and the famous Aga Khan at the RDS, plus he selected Cian O'Connor, who went on to win individual jumping bronze at London 2012.

His first outing of the year will be at the Nations Cup show in Florida at the end of the month.
