Carey claims win in Dresden
Saturday, 28 November 2009 12:23Ireland's Shane Carey came out fighting on the first day of international competition at Dresden in Germany with two convincing top five places.
The Limerick-born rider scored with a win in the afternoon's speed class on the nine year-old bay gelding Twister W, a comfortable one-and-a-half seconds clear of German runner-up Franz-Josef Dahlmann and ECL Lunatic.
The 31-year-old rider came back out for the evening Grand Prix Qualifier with Soren Truelsen's mare Lotus Elise and took a third place, four fifths of a second behind German winner Franke Sloothaak and Aquino.
Carey is joined by Cork's Billy Twomey at Dresden, where the Grand Prix takes place on Sunday afternoon, with a €40,000 Mercedes car as first prize.
