Coyle finishes third in Belgium

Derry's Trevor Coyle collected €3,500 for a third place in the Grand Prix at Wieze in Belgium on Sunday with his own eight-year-old Darco mare, Bijou van de Vijfheide.

The former Ulster rugby player, who celebrated his 51st birthday last week, was one of ten through to the jump-off in a talented field of 51 starters.

But neither he nor German runner-up Pia-Luise Aufrecht could match the scorching second round of Netherlands winner Eric van der Vleuten, who powered VDL Groep Utascha across the line with almost three seconds to spare over the time of his nearest challenger.
