Kurten opens with victory in Qatar

Jessica Kurten picked up the first big prize purse of the weekend when she won Wednesday's jump-off competition at the Global Champions' Tour show in Doha, Qatar.

Collecting €16,000 for her win, the 39 year-old powered chestnut mare Castle Forbes Cosma through two clear rounds and crossed the final line a third of a second ahead of Dutch runner-up Albert Zoer in a ten-horse jump off.

Earlier, Ireland's Denis Lynch finished sixth in the show's opening speed class with 'Nabab's Son'.

Both riders will hope to finish in the top 18 after Thursday night's
Global Champions Tour competition so that they can compete for the €300,000 prize in Saturday's 2009 Tour Final.
