Noel Cawley's grey Cruising stallion 'Castellar' was the victor in
Sunday’s Five Year-Old Grand Final of the 2009 Irish Sport
Horse Show Jumping Series at Tattersalls in County Meath.
Ridden by veteran horseman Edward Doyle, the stallion, which is out of Irco Rain (ISH) by Irco Mena (SWB), delivered a foot-perfect double clear to claim the first prize in the Horse Sport Ireland-sponsored €5,000 class.
Afterwards owner Noel Cawley said: ‘The stallion comes from a very good breeding line, and his full sister has qualified to compete in the Three-Year-Old Loose Jumping Class at Dublin this year.
‘These Studbook classes have been great for breeders and owners and are a very good preparation for Irish Sport Horses that may go on to jump internationally.’
Runner-up at Tattersalls today was Majella Tuohy's 'Ardagh Stein'
ridden by Gerard Clarke, while third place went to Ann Hughes's 'HHS Pinky', ridden by her daughter Marion.
The joint winners of the 2009 Irish Sport Horse Show Jumping Series were Gillian Lee's bay mare 'Porsch's Diamond' ridden by Conor Drain, who shared a 20 point score with today's runner-up, the Ekstein bay gelding 'Ardagh Stein'. Third place on 17 points went to Connie Boyle's bay gelding 'I'm One Cool Cookie' ridden by John McGuinness.
Horse Sport Ireland provided total prize funding of €75,000 for
the 2009 Irish Sport Horse Studbook Show Jumping Series.
