Twomey takes seventh in Madrid

Cork's Billy Twomey was the best of the Irish in the Spanish Grand
Prix at Madrid on Saturday, with a seventh place on Anna
Kennedy's bay stallion 'KEC Maximum Joe'.

The 32-year-old Cheshire-based Twomey was one of ten through to the jump-off from a starting field of 46, but dropped a pole in the final round to finish just behind the leaders.

The USA's Olympic rider Laura Kraut claimed the €50,000 first prize with a double clear on the bay gelding 'Anthem', beating Canada's Eric Lamaze by just under half a second.

Next highest-placed Irish rider at the five-star Grand Prix was Cian O'Connor, whose chestnut gelding 'Complete' touched the tape at the water jump to incur a first round tally of four faults, leaving him in 16th place overall.
