Limerick-born Army rider Captain Shane Carey took second place in today's Derby feature event at Eindhoven's three-star show in the Netherlands with the Minister for Defence's Irish-bred Cavalier Royale gelding 'River Foyle'.
In a finish that saw only one clear round, from British winner Geoff
Billington and 'Rosinus', no jump-off was necessary, as Carey's five faults were recorded in a faster time than those incurred by third-placed Henk van de Pol from the Netherlands, and the 31 year-old Irish rider claimed the runner-up's prize of €8,000.
On Friday, Carey also lined out with 'River Foyle' and took a third
place in the Derby Qualifier behind Sweden's Eric Lickhammer and Dutch winner Maikel van der Vleuten.
