Duffy wins in Cavan to top table

Mayo Young Rider Alex Duffy took today's second leg of the ShowjumpingIreland National Grand Prix at Cavan.

Riding Sandra Duffy's Courtown Duffy also became the first leading Young Rider in the Pegus Horse Feeds Young Rider Development League in association with Tiffen Developments along with 14 year old Daniel Coyle.

The pair were best of 10 jump off combinations and stopped the clock in 31.70.

Afterwards the winning rider commented; 'I'm just back from the Sunshine Tour. The horse is in super form and goes to Lisbon next week for the Nations Cup.'

There was further joy for the 19-year-old Duffy when he got selected as the Mackey Equestrian rider to go forward for a training bursary later in the year.

Knightfield Stud's stable rider Catríona Fallon took second with Knightfield owner Tom Rowland's stallion Caricello in 33.32.

Another of the Young Riders, Daniel Coyle, took 3rd with his mother Eleanor's Larmelle Gii in 31.14.

The league now moves to next week's Rolestown show on Sunday 24 May. Duffy now joins Barnadown Grand Prix winner Peter Smyth at the top of the table.
