Drain regains lead in Spring Tour

Norther Ireland teenager Conor Drain caused a sensation at the penultimate leg of the HSI Guidam Spring Tour when he regained top place on the leaderboard with his fifth Grand Prix win of the series at Coilog, Co Kildare today.

The Antrim-born 16-year-old rode Judith Sossick's Irish-bred mare
Loughview Lou-Lou and saw off challenger Trevor Breen and Adventure de Kanaan with over a second in hand.

Third place in today's Grand Prix was taken by young Belgian rider
Jody Bosteels and Nina Droeshout, just fractions of a second behind the leaders.

With now only the HSI Guidam Final to take place at Mullingar tomorrow Drain is five points clear of 2008 Tour winner, Waterford's Tholm Keane, whose best effort today was a sixth place on Ronan Tynan's Warrentown You 2.

Afterwards Drain said: 'I knew I had to go for it. If she hadn't
picked up at the last fence we'd have been in trouble, but it all
worked out in the end. I'm five points in the lead now, and I'll be
giving it my best shot at Mullingar tomorrow to stay there.'
