Double success for Irish in Belgium

Two Northern Ireland riders claimed their second wins of the weekend at the three-star show in Lummen, Belgium today.

Co Antrim's 21-year-old David Simpson once again placed the Irish- bred grey Cruising mare 'Cruise With Me' in the winner's enclosure with a convincing victory in this afternoon's 1m50 class, beating Belgian runner-up Jan Motmans by over a second in the 16 horse jump-off. Alex Duffy also claimed a tenth place for Ireland with 'Courtown'.

Simpson won the 1m40 jump-off competition with the mare on Saturday, but collected €5,000 for his victory today in the more demanding class.

This morning, Co Tyrone's Peter Smyth took first place in the 1m40
speed competition with the 14-year-old French-bred 'Hygie de Golf', a repeat of his victory on Thursday with the mare.

Another 1m40 speed competition at Lummen today saw Mayo's Cameron Hanley place Sevil Sabanci and Gerry Mullins's stallion 'SIEC Livello' in the runner-up spot behind Sweden's Niklas Arvidsson, while Denis Lynch slotted Thomas Straumann's 'Nabab's Son' into fourth.
