Ireland’s Shane Sweetnam saw off America’s best on Saturday night when he when he secured second place in the World Cup Qualifier at Green Cove Springs in Florida.

The Cork-born rider recorded one of only two double-clear rounds in the 33-strong field on Amaretto d'Arco, but was unable to catch Brazil's Olympic champion Rodrigo Pessoa who set a blistering pace in the jump-off to take the winner's trophy with Let's Fly.

The USA's Kent Farrington lowered a pole for four faults in his
attempt to overtake the leaders, and though clocking a faster time, he had to settle for third overall.

The Green Cove Springs World Cup Qualifier was part of the Jacksonville Horse Show.
