Belgian Geert De Vos pulled off an upset in the first round of the BDO World Championship at Frimley Green on Monday night with a 3-1 win over 11th seed Tony West.
De Vos showed no nerves on his big-time debut, starting the match with a 15-dart leg as he took the first set before West - playing with borrowed darts after leaving one of his darts in the Netherlands - battled back to draw level.
De Vos nudged back in front by taking the third set with a 99 finish including two consecutive double tops, then clinched the match in the following set by hitting double 10.
Alan Norris used all his experience to edge out 14th seed Benito van de Pas 3-2 after the 18-year-old Dutchman had twice fought back from a set down to force the decider.
Norris missed double top for the match in the fourth set but rallied to take control of the decider and won the match with a 74 check-out.
In the last match of the night, last year's runner-up Dean Winstanley got his campaign up and running with a comfortable 3-1 success against Dutchman Joey ten Berge.
