Former champion Ted Hankey moved into the last 16 of the BDO World Championship with a 3-2 win over debutant Clive Barden.

In a heated encounter, Hankey led 2-0 but was pegged back by his inexperienced opponent. However, 'The Count' held his nerve to see out the win by taking an exciting fifth set.

Scott Waites, the joint favourite at Lakeside, saw off Andy Boulton 3-1 after a brilliant start was curtailed by Boulton's spirited fightback.

Christian Kist upset sixth seed Jan Dekker with a 3-2 win this afternoon, beating his fellow Dutchman in 48 minutes to secure his place in the next round.

Willy van de Wiel, meanwhile, was ruthless in his 3-0 win over Dave Prins while there were also wins for Martin Atkins, Paul Jennings and Wesley Harms.
