Ireland’s Eoin Mullen has taken a bronze medal at the Under-23 European Track Championships in Portugal.

Mullen beat Poland’s Mateausz Lipa in the bronze medal final of the sprint event, to finish behind winner Nikita Shurshin of Russia and Jeffrey Hoogland of the Netherlands.

Mullen won the first round of his semi-final before Hoogland took the lead in second and third rounds to seal his spot in the final and ensure Mullen would have to settle for a spot in the bronze medal final.

Mullen had a difficult start to the bronze medal final, losing the first round to Lipa, before taking the second and third.
