Irish cyclist Dan Martin had to settle for fourth place in the Fleche Wallonne one-day Classic.

All the more frustrating for Martin was that he suffered a puncture 20km from the finish line. He did, however, make good progress up the steep climbs towards the finish, but could not overhaul the leading trio.

Nicolas Roche was in the leading group in the final climb, but fell away and came home in 37th place.

The race was won by Spaniard Dani Moreno of the Katusha team, with the Colombian pair of Sergio Henao and Carlos Betancur in second and third place respectively.

The Fleche Wallonne is the second of a series of three races known as the Ardennes Classics. The third is the Liege-Bastogne-Liege Classic on Sunday.
