Germany's John Degenkolb won his fourth stage of this year's Vuelta a Espana.

It was Degenkolb's fourth victory of the tour as he finished strongly on the 190km ride from Ponteareas to Sanxenxo.

Pace setters Adrian Palomares and Javier Aramendia led the breakaway until the 157km mark before they were caught.

In a thrilling finish Degenkolb managed to find a gap and sprint away from a massive group, as an incredible 22 riders finished just one second off the pace.

France's Nacer Bouhanni was second behind the Argos-Shimano rider in the bunch sprint, with Italian Daniele Bennati third.

Ireland's Nicolas Roche finished back in 35th place, four seconds behind Degenkolb and is now seventh overall, 2:34 off the lead.

Joaquim Rodriguz of Spain remains the overall leader for a seventh successive stage.
