Ciarán Power and David O’Loughlin have been named in the Navigators Insurance team to ride in the new Tour of Ireland race in August.
The Irish duo will compete in the UCI 2.1 ranked event from 22-26 August. The other riders named in the seven-man US-based outfit are Kristian House, Hilton Clarke, Valeriy Kobzarenko, Sergey Lagutin and Phil Zajicek.
Power and O’Loughlin have just finished riding in the Commerce Bank race series which concluded in Philadelphia on Sunday. They were both prominent in the 156m final race, forming a two-man break in the early stages.
Mayo native O'Loughlin has won Irish national titles at junior, under-23 and senior levels. He has also claimed the Irish Championships triple-crown of senior time-trial, criterium and road race titles.
Power is a double Olympian having represented Ireland at Sydney and Athens. The 31-year-old sprinter from Waterford is a former overall champion and multiple stage winner of the FBD Milk Rás.
Both riders will be keen to perform well in their home tour, with O’Loughlin racing through his home town of Cong on Stage Four. Power gets closest to home on the first stage which goes through Carrick-on-Suir on its way from Kilkenny to Cork.
