O'Brien set to face India

Ireland wicketkeeper-batsman Niall O'Brien is hoping to be fit for Wednesday's ICC World Twenty20 Group A match against India, despite confirmation of a grade one tendon tear in his right ankle.

O'Brien suffered the injury during Monday's victory over Bangladesh at Trent Bridge, which carried Ireland through to the Super Eights stage of the tournament.

The left-hander went on to make an important contribution to Ireland's run chase, despite having to bat with a runner for much of his innings.

It was feared he may need a scan on the injury.

But an Ireland spokesman reported this afternoon: 'There is no ligament damage.

'He has a grade one tear in his tendon but is hoping to play tomorrow.'

O'Brien will continue to have treatment from Ireland's physio but much of the swelling and bruising is already beginning to subside.
