Darren O’Neill, David Oliver Joyce and Michael O’Reilly have assured Team Ireland of at least three silver medals at the European Union Boxing Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria.
 
All three won their semi-finals today, but Hughie Myers had to settle for bronze after losing to Slovakia’s Stefan Mezei in the light-flyweight class.
 
O’Reilly got Ireland back to winning ways shortly after Myers’ reversal on a split decision over Hungary’s AIBA World No 12 ranked lightweight Balazs Bacskai.
 
And Joyce, who has already won two European Union gold medals, followed that up with a unanimous decision over Edgaras Skuddelis of Lithuania.
 
O’Neill, who is captaining the Irish team in Sofia, made it three in-a-row for Ireland with a unanimous decision over French light-heavyweight Mamadou Diabira.
 
Saturday’s finals begin at 1300 (Irish time).
