Katie Taylor is through to the European Boxing Championship semi-finals after seeing off Romanian Lavinia Mera.

The 28-year-old Olympic champion, fighting in the lightweight (60kg) division, is now guaranteed at least a bronze medal as she bids for a sixth consecutive European Championship title.

The Bray boxer won on a TKO in the final round against Mera, who lived in Cork for six years. 

Earlier, Michaela Walsh and Joanne Lambe were both beaten in their quarter-final bouts in Bucharest.

Walsh was beaten by world and European champion Elena Saveleva of Russia in the bantamweight division, while Lambe lost to Bulgaria’s Svetlana Staneva in the featherweight category.
