Olympic champion Katie Taylor heads a five-strong squad for the 2014 European Women’s Elite Championships in Bucharest, Romania next month.

Taylor will be aiming for a sixth successive European gold medal in the Romanian capital, when the tournament starts on 30 May.

The Bray fighter beat Russia’s Sofya Ochigava in the 2011 European final in Rotterdam to claim her fifth European Elite title, while she also beat Ochigava in the 2012 World and Olympic finals.

Experienced Cavan BC international Ceire Smith will wear the Irish light-flyweight vest in Bucharest and former AIBA World Youth bronze medallist Michaela Walsh will line out at bantamweight.

The squad is completed with the inclusion of Carrickmacross fighter Joanna Lambe (57kg) and Cavan BC’s Clare Grace (69kg), who are both current Irish Elite champions.
