Ireland women claim four medals in Germany

Michaela Walsh (gold), Joanna Lambe (silver), Clare Grace (silver) and Alanna Audley -Murphy (bronze) finished in podium positions in the Elite Round Robin in Wittenburg, Germany.

The quartet were part of a seven-strong Ireland team taking on Germany A and B and Russia in the round robin tournament.

Ireland wound up an intense weekend of boxing with a meeting against Russia this afternoon.

Clare Grace recorded a win over Saadat Abdulayeva.

Audley-Murphy, who along with Walsh will represent Northern Ireland at the Commonwealth Games this summer, was in against London 2012 silver medallist Sofya Ochigava and gave a fine account of herself over four, two minute rounds against the former world elite champion.

Ochigava, who was beaten by Katie Taylor in the Olympic final in London in 2012, won three bouts in three days this weekend.

Irish team manager Maura Campbell praised the performances of the Irish team in Germany.

The Irish squad are due to arrive home via Dublin Airport at 11:20pm tonight.
