John Joe Nevin weighed in yesterday ahead of his professional debut in Boston on St Patrick’s Day.
Nevin will meet Porto Rican featherweight Albert Candelaria (3-0-1) over six rounds on a nine-fight card at the House of Blues in Boston tonight. Nevin tipped the scales at 131lbs, Candelaria at 129lbs.
“Once I perform to my best, I believe no one can beat me in the world. I’m just looking to make all the Irish fans happy,” said Nevin, ahead of his first outing in the paid ranks.
Brian McKeown, Nevin’s long time coach at the Cavan BC, will be working his corner at the House of Blues.
Nevin signed a professional deal with GreenBlood of Philadelphia and Berkeley Sports and Media of the UK last October, just a few weeks after moving to number one in the AIBA World rankings.
The 24-year-old has been training in Philadelphia for the last number of weeks.
Dubliner Jamie Kavanagh is slated to fight on the same bill.
