Amir Khan has given the biggest hint yet that he will return to the ring in May after suggesting he would like to fight on Floyd Mayweather's under card.

Pound-for-pound king Mayweather faces Marcos Maidana in a welterweight unification fight in Las Vegas on May 3, which Khan believed he was in line for.

The Bolton fighter even turned down a bout with Devon Alexander before Christmas, opting instead to sign a contract to face Mayweather but that fight never materialised.

That means Khan has been inactive since a shaky victory over Julio Diaz last April, with his camp suggesting in recent weeks that an announcement about his next opponent was imminent.

And while it has been confirmed that Khan will not be facing Adrien Broner any time soon, the Olympic silver medallist has revealed there is a good chance he will be taking on somebody in Nevada in seven weeks' time.

"It's not been confirmed fully just yet who we're going to fight and whether we're going to fight on his under card, but I think  it might be a good idea to fight on his under card as chief support," Khan told BBC Radio Five Live.

"Being in front of his face is kind of good because Floyd will always see me, plus he knows that he should have been fighting me instead of Maidana. Maidana, I've already beat him."
