Former European light-welterweight champion Paul McCloskey suffered a surprise points defeat to Dave Ryan in Leeds last night.

McCloskey was making his first appearance since beating Manuel Perez in Belfast in September 2012 and had moved up to welterweight for his comeback contest.

The Derryman had Ryan on the canvas in the fourth round, however, Ryan fought back and repeatedly tagged McCloskey to grab a narrow 77-75 points decision.

The defeat means the 34-year-old, who controversially lost to Amir Khan in his only world title bout in 2011, has now lost two of his last three fights.
