Ireland’s Christina Desmond and Ciara Ginty are guaranteed at least silver medals at the AIBA Women's Youth and Junior World Championships in Bulgaria.

Desmond, who boxes out of the Macroom, recorded a unanimous decision over Turkey’s Sema Caliskan in the welterweight class.

She’ll now meet Kazakhstan’s Gauhar Yermekbay in Saturday’s 69kg final.

Ginty, a member of the Geesala Boxing Club, beat Yekaterina Annissimova of Kazakhstan on a unanimous decision at the 31-nation tournament to reach the lightweight final.

Turkey’s Esra Yildiz advanced from her semi-final to set up Saturday’s 60kg decider.

Light-flyweight Jacqui Lynch was edged out on a split decision by Russia’s Ekaterina Paltceiva.

The Golden Gloves Boxing Club fighter will be taking home a bronze from the tournament.
