Willie Donoghue is through to the light-flyweight final at the AIBA World Junior Championships in the Ukraine.
The St Michael’s Athy BC teenager beat Jonathan Lopez on a unanimous decision in the semi-final in Kiev.
Donoghue, who is now guaranteed at least silver, will meet Daniel Gonzalez of the USA in Sunday’s 48kg final.
Ireland’s Kieran Molloy and Sean Conroy bowed out at the semi-final stage today following injury and a split decision reversal.
Molloy twisted his knee in the first round of his lightweight clash with Vladislav Tugui of Moldova and was forced to retire injured.
Conroy lost out to Russian middleweight Vitaliy Bakhmatov.
