The IABA have received confirmation that Joe Ward will not be competing at the 2012 London Olympics.

It was hoped Ward would qualify as a 'next best boxer' following his performance at the 2011 AIBA World Boxing Championships. Ward lost his last-16 81kg bout on a countback.

However, the IABA received a statement from the AIBA confirming that 'we regrettably found out that your boxer does not meet the qualification to be the next Best Boxer in your continent.'

The statement read: "…following the Olympic Qualifying Guidelines approved by the IOC Executive Board, the next Best Boxer from the 2011 AIBA World Boxing Championships is supposed to be selected.

"Following the Competition Protocol list, we regrettably found out that your boxer does not meet the qualification to be the next Best Boxer in your continent."

Head coach Billy Walsh has stated that he is extremely disappointed with this decision.
