Irish boxers do double on England

Ireland did the double over England at at an amateur boxing international in the Ramada Hotel in Ballina, Co Mayo on Thursday night.

This win follows the 5-4 victory over England the Castlecourt Hotel in Westport on Wednesday night.

Positive verdicts for Danny Coughlan - his second victory in 24 hours - Tyrone McCullagh, Eric Donovan, Robert Gorman, John Joe Joyce, Stephen O'Reilly and Alan Reynolds secured the win.

Irish senior champion Donovan stopped Antonio Counihan in the third, and Beijing Olympian John Joyce, who moved up to welterweight recently, edged out Ben Falaja.

Donegal middleweight Stephen O'Reilly handed Ireland an unassailable 6-3 lead after defeating Nicky Gittus in the second last bout of the evening.

Former Irish senior champion Alan Reynolds sealed an 11-7 aggregate win over the two legs with victory over Rob Evans.

The bout was hosted by the Ardnaree boxing club.
