Irish featherweight champion Carl Frampton guaranteed Ireland at least one bronze medal from the Ahmet Comert Cup following his quarter final victory in Istanbul, Turkey, this afternoon.

But 2008 Olympian John Joe Joyce is out of the tournament following a 4-0 quarter-final reversal to Romanian light welterweight Traian Lupo.

Frampton, the reigning Irish senior featherweight champion from the Midland White City club in Belfast, beat Ukrainian Oleg Malynosky 7-2.

World and European lightweight champion Katie Taylor, Paddy Barnes, a bronze medal winner at the Beijing Olympics, European Union champion John Joe Nevin and Irish senior champion Eric Donovan will be involved in quarter final-bouts this evening.

Nevin meets Quarradi Abdelhalim of Algeria in a repeat of their 2008 Olympic clash which the Irish senior champion won.
