As the count down to the prestigious National Cup draws closer, basketball fans around the country had plenty of Premier League action to whet their appetite this weekend.
To begin with, both of the men’s National Cup finalists secured victories, Dublin Inter fought a tough battle with Templeogue to see them come out on top of a seven point win 72-79 while C&S UCC Demons sailed passed UL Eagles in front of a supportive home crowd in the Mardyke 80-73.
Both Bord Gais Neptune and Killester bounced back from their devastating knockouts the week previous as the Cork side trumped SSE Renewables Moycullen 116-83 as Michael McGinn produced a stunning 47-point game.
Meanwhile Killester returned to form when they took on UCD Marian and won 90-61.
Meanwhile, DCU Saints continued their winning streak when they faced Belfast Star 66-70.
In the Women’s Premier League Team Montenotte Hotel Cork fell at the hands of DCU Mercy 48-60. It seemed revenge was sweet for the Dublin side as they reversed the result from the National Cup semi-finals as they refocused their attention to league matters.
UL Huskies earned another win on the road when they faced a depleted Killester 54-77 while WIT Wildcats saw off Meteors 48-58.
Up north, Ulster Rockets had a successful a double weekend when they defeated Singleton SuperValu Brunell on Saturday, 65-63 and Liffey Celtics on Sunday 64-61.
