Demons add to squad with Van capture

UCC Demons have signalled their intentions for the upcoming Nivea For Men's SuperLeague season by securing the signing of Marcus Van from Central Michigan University.

Van arrives at Demons early next week with a strong reputation after his senior year in the MAC Conference saw him named top offensive rebounder, top rebounder in the conference, top scorer on his team as well as being named on the All-Conference second team.

The MAC Conference has certainly been a good hunting ground in the past for the 2009 treble champions with former stars Jerrah Young and Ryne Hamblet also having plied their trade in the competition.

'Marcus is a very welcome addition to our team,' said Demons' recently recruited head coach Paul Kelleher.

'With our perimeter players that we have we needed a player that can give us the inside presence that can help us compete again this year and I'm confident Marcus can give us the necessary interior presence.'

Demons have also been busy recruiting on the youth front with Ciaran O'Sullivan, Daniel O'Sullivan, Eoghan Harnedy, Emmett Murphy and Shane Buckley all making the step up to SuperLeague level this season.

'It's nice to have young players coming through,' added Kelleher.

'While some players have come from other clubs, having a number of young players coming through will help us long term and they will certainly learn from the likes of experienced duo Shane Coughlan and Niall O'Reilly. This can only bode well for the future of the club.'
