Jordan to retire next year

NBA legend Michael Jordan will retire next spring according to yesterday's Washington Post newspaper. It will bring to an end an illustrious 14-year playing career. Jordan is currently playing out a two-year, $2.1 million deal with the Washington Wizards but has no intention of extending that deal.

"Right now I'm fulfilling my contract but at the end of this season I'm not looking to enter another contract." However, he's not leaving the game behind altogether as he plans to resume his role as the Wizards' president of basketball operations after the current season.

Jordan came out of his second retirement before last season after working as the Wizards' top basketball official. Months before his comeback, he had insisted that he was 99.9 per cent sure he would never play again only to restart his career with the Bulls. However, this time around, he maintains his decision to quit is definite - "100 percent, I'm sure," he told the Post.

Jordan has been dogged by knee injuries since resuming his playing career and he missed 20 games last season after undergoing surgery.
