On the penultimate day of competition at the Paralympic Athletics European Championships in Swansea, Ireland’s Lorraine Regan finished fifth in the F57 Shot Put with a best of 6.88m.

Notably the event was won with a season’s best throw of 10.58m by Stela Eneva of Bulgaria; the same athlete that won F57 Discus gold ahead of Ireland’s Orla Barry yesterday.

Regan, 23, from Kilcormac in Co Offaly is a member of Paralympic Ireland’s development panel and will be pleased with how she performed in this, her secondary event.

Her best throw was marginally off a season’s best, and demonstrating good technique she was the only finalist with all six throws valid.

Earlier in the day Catherine O’Neill (F51), from New Ross, Wexford, placed sixth in the F32/F51 Club Throw Final (combined class*) with a best throw of 11.76m.

On the final day of competition Michael McKillop, who claimed the 800m European title on Wednesday, will bid to complete the double when he lines up in the T38 1500m final at 11.10am.
