Fionnuala Britton will compete at this year’s Spar Great Ireland Run 10k in Dublin's Phoenix Park on 6 April.

Britton last ran in the event in 2011 when she finished seventh and as first Irish runner home secured the national 10km championship.

The Dubliner will use this year’s race as part of her preparation towards competing in August at the 10,000m track event at the European Championships in Zurich.

The Great Ireland Run will be the two-time European cross country champion’s first outing since her recent split from long-time coach Chris Jones.

Meanwhile, Irish indoor 800m record holder Mark English has withdrawn from this weekend’s Woodie's DIY senior indoor Championships of Ireland.

A respiratory infection has forced English’s withdrawal from the championships in Athlone.
