Work is due to begin this year on the long-awaited National Indoor Arena in Abbotstown according to the Minister for Transport,Tourism and Sport Leo Varadkar.

The arena will have a 200-metre indoor track and will provide a facility for indoor athletics, gymnastics and a host of other sports.

The Minister made the announcement at the opening of new multi-sport synthetic pitches facility and pavilion for GAA, hockey, rugby and soccer at the National Sports Campus in Blanchardstown.

And the GAA and FAI are also expected to announce that work will start on their own developments at the Campus in the next few months.
