Birmingham has been awarded the 2018 World Indoor Championships, the IAAF has announced.

The city had originally targeted the 2016 meeting but that has been awarded to Portland, Oregon.

The IAAF confirmed via its official Twitter account: "...the city of Birmingham will host the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships."
The news is another boost for British athletics after London was awarded the 2017 World Championships.

Birmingham's National Indoor Arena, which last hosted the Championships in 2003, is currently undergoing a £24million revamp which is expected to be completed early next year.
