Wicklow’s Fionnuala Britton (Kilcoole AC) and Stephanie O’Reilly (Sli Cualann AC) were in action at the IAAF World Track and Field Championships in Daegu, South Korea today, competing in the 3000m steeplechase.

Britton was unfortunate not to make the final, finishing in sixth place in heat one and recording a time of 9:41.17, which was just one spot outside a fastest qualification spot. O'Reilly finished eighth in the third heat, posting a time of 9:55.49.

Following the tragic death of her mother-in-law, Marian Heffernan is set to rejoin the women’s 4x400m relay team in Daegu today.

The final team selection will be made over the coming days, with the team targeting an Olympic qualification time when they line up in the heats next Saturday.
