Jason Smyth has informed Athletics Northern Ireland that he must withdraw from the Northern Ireland team for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Smyth has sustained a back injury and on medical advice has been recommended to rest completely for at least six weeks to ensure a full recovery.
In these circumstances, Smyth and his advisers have decided that he will not be properly prepared for the games.
Athletics Northern Ireland released a statement stating: Athletics Northern Ireland and the NI Commonwealth Games Council wish Jason a speedy recovery and look forward to him being back to full fitness in time for the IPC World Paralympic Championships in New Zealand in January 2011.’
