Andrew Ledwith (Fr. Murphy’s AC) ran the race of his life to finish second in the Desert News 10k in a time of 27:34.6, with a new Irish record.
Winner was Ethiopian Alene Reta in a new course record time of 27:18.7.
John Treacy’s Irish 10k record stood at 27:46 since 1985, and, subject to ratification, Ledwith has written his name into the record books with his effort today.
Ledwith said ‘I am delighted to end the season this way.
'In December I had one of the worst experiences racing in my life and it has taught me not to get so caught up in the result of one race. Bad race or good race today, I was going to finish this season happy’.
