The seventh Great Ireland Run took place in the Phoenix Park in Dublin today with biggest ever field of 11,000 athletes taking part in the event.

The men's race was won by Rui Pedro Silva from Portugal in a time of 28 minutes 45 seconds.

The former Portuguese Cross-County champion just got the better of Kenya's Paul Targat (28:46) who finished second, while Ireland's Martin Fagan finished third in a time of 28 minutes 47 seconds.

Meanwhile, the women's race went to Portugal also as Ana Dulce-Felix won in a time of 32 minutes and 18 seconds.

European indoor 3,000 metres bronze medallist Mary Cullen finished second in a time of 32:25, while Latvian Jelena Prokopcuka was back in third place.
